Born in 1995, Katharina Schmitzer had her first violin lesson at the age of 5. She continued on to study with Elisabeth Chmura, Mayumi Hirasaki, Irina Goldstein und Prof. Reto Kuppel, with whom she completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the HfM Nürnberg.
She is currently working on her Master’s Degree with Prof. Sebastian Schmidt at the HfMT Hamburg.
Katharina’s orchestral experience includes membership in the Bayerischen Landesjugendorchester and in the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO), as well as performances as a soloist with the Hoschschulorchester at the HfM Nürnberg. She especially enjoys chamber music and has drawn great inspiration from masterclasses with the Mandelring Quartett, Prof. Eberhard Feltz, and Prof. Oliver Wille.
Katharina was a scholarship recipient of the Peter Pirazzi Foundation as well as „Live Music Now“. Masterclasses with prestigious violinists such as Leonidas Kavakos, Ulf Hoelscher, Mintcho Minchev, and Ingolf Turban have enriched her playing.
She joined the PHO in April 2018.
