Katharina Schmitzer received her first violin tuition at the age of five. She has studied with Mayumi Hirasaki, Irina Goldstein and Professor Reto Kuppel, with whom she completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Nuremberg Music College. Currently she is in the Master’s programme at the Hamburg College of Music and Theatre, studying with Professor Sebastian Schmidt.
She gained orchestral experience in the Bavarian and Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestras and Ensemble Reflektor. As a soloist she has performed with the orchestra of the Nuremberg Music College.
Her particular enthusiasm for making chamber music in a wide variety of formations has resulted in her taking part in many chamber music courses with the Mandelring Quartet and Professors Eberhard Feltz and Oliver Wille, among others. She also found inspiration in master classes with such respected violinists as Leonidas Kavakos, Ulf Hoelscher, Mintcho Ninchev and Ingolf Turban.
Katharina has received scholarships from the Peter Pirazzi foundation, Live Music Now and the German government, and has been a member of the Paul Hindemith Orchestral Academy since April 2018.
