Andrew Nissen, from Sydney, Australia, got his Bachelors’ degree with honors in Trombone in 2009 from the Sydney Conservatory under the tutelage of Scott Kimont. He continued his education and career development in the United States, earning a Masters from the Mannes School of Music in New York City in 2013 (Weston Sprott, James Markey) and a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in 2015 (Toby Oft, Stephen Lange).
Andrew has been a member of many renowned festivals in the Northern Hemisphere, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Music Center, the Alessi Seminar, the Texas Music Festival, AIMS Graz, the Pokorny Seminar, and the Mulcahy Masterclass.
He is an active sub with several orchestras around the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony, the Queensland Symphony, the Tasmanian Symphony, the Canberra Symphony, and Opera Orchestra Australia.
2016, Andrew returned home to Sydney to take up the 2016 Trombone Fellowship position with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, as well as accepting a position on faculty at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney instructing trombone, chamber ensemble, and performance masterclass. He joined the Paul Hindemith Orchestral Academy after a successful audition in December 2017.
